Pictured: (l-r) Morgan Fierro placed first for Staples in 14th place with a time of 16:13, earning All New England honors. Senior Teddy O’Kane followed in 47th place in 16:40 and senior Nick Taubenheim placed 52nd in 16:43.The top scoring positions were rounded out by juniors George Lepska (103rd) and Dillon Harding (115th). The final finishers for Staples were Junior Max Sod (143rd) and Sophomore Zach Taubman (166th). Staples Principal Stafford Thomas joined to root on the athletes and celebrate the team’s success.

The Staples Boys’ Cross Country Team today advanced to the New Englands, placing fifth overall at the CIAC State Open Championships in a field of 205 runners. It was a phenomenal finish in spite of the loss of two top senior runners due to illness. Senior Morgan Fierro (r) finished fifth overall, earning all state honor and the strong finishes of Dillon Harding (Junior), George Lepska (Junior), Zach Taubman (Sophomore) and Max Sod (Junior) enabled the team to achieve fifth place and qualify for the New England Championships next Saturday at Wickham Park, Manchester.
The Staples Girl’s Cross Country Team was represented by Tori Greenberg (senior) finishing 26 of 180 runners, missing qualifying for New England’s by one spot and Josie Dolan (sophomore) also ran and finished in the top third of the field.

The Staples Girls’ Cross Country Team was led by Co-Captain Tori Greenberg who placed 2nd overall in the Girl’s Varsity Race.
The Staples Boys Varsity took 8 of the top 10 places over the 3-mile course. Morgan Fierro placed 1st, followed by 2nd place finisher Nick Taubenheim and 3rd place finisher Teddy O’Kane. They were followed by Dillon Harding in 5th, George Lepska in 6th, Zach Taubman in 7th, Max Sod in 9th and Jonathan Lorenz 10th overall for Staples.

XC19 Alumni
Former Staples class of 2019 runners Luke Lorenz (left, Middlebury College) and Ryan Smith (right, Bates College) were reunited Saturday Sept. 14, 2019 at the Bates Invitational at Pineland Farms in Gloster, ME. Bates won the meet, defeating Connecticut College, Tufts, Middlebury and Southern Maine.The two will meet again at the NESCAC Championships November 2nd.
